What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body. These points are believed to be interconnected along a meridian system. By targeting these various points, it stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal. Acupuncture is recognized as a safe and effective complementary therapy when performed by trained and qualified practitioners.
Acupuncture at The Functional Approach
At The Functional Approach our practitioners use Functional Integrated Acupuncture, which takes the concepts of traditional chinese acupuncture with some adaptations to it, so that we can better manage neuromusculoskeletal complaints. The focus of this approach involves identifying the areas of injury and targeting muscle groups that may be involved with or related to it.
The goal with acupuncture at The Functional Approach is to increase blood flow to the area’s of injury to help better regulate the inflammatory response allowing the tissue to heal faster and cause a natural release of endorphins which provides our patients with some added pain relief. It can also desensitize the nervous system for those suffering with debilitating nerve pain.
